Week of May 25-29, 2020
Music Class
During the month of May, the Catholic Church recognizes the Blessed Virgin Mary as the mother of Jesus. The way that we do this is with various hymns and traditions. These hymns (or songs), are sometimes referred to as Marian Hymns, as they allow us to show our love to Mary using our voices. There is also the May Crowning. This is when we place a crown of flowers on a statue of the Blessed Mother to show respect and love for her. Since we are not in our school and church buildings at this time, our traditional May Processions have become virtual. Remember, we can pray wherever we are. WE are the church, the people of God.
For this week, I am going to ask you to watch the videos found below. Each video is a different hymn dedicated to Mary. Underneath each video you will find the words to the hymns. Please listen and read the words. Once you have watched each video, please write a paragraph of 5 or more sentences telling which hymn was your favorite. Please explain your answer. You may choose to discuss the words used within the hymn. You can talk about the instrumentation used within the song. You may also talk about the vocals within the song. Please use this time as a way to remember Mary as the Mother of Jesus.

Bring Flowers of the Rarest
Bring flow'rs of the fairest, Bring flow'rs of the rarest, From garden and woodland And hillside and vale; Our full hearts are swelling, Our Glad voices telling The praise of the loveliest Rose of the vale. O Mary! we crown thee with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May, O Mary! we crown thee with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May. |

On This Day, O Beautiful Mother
On this day, O beautiful Mother, On this day we give thee our love. Near the, Madonna, fondly we hover, Trusting thy gentle care to prove. On this day we ask to share, Dearest Mother, thy sweet care; Aid us ere our feet astray Waner from thy guiding way. Queen of angels, deign to hear Lisping children's humble prayer; Young hearts gain, O virgin pure, Sweetly to thyself allure. |

Sing of Mary
Sing of Mary, pure and lowly, Virgin mother undefiled, Sing of God's own Son most holy, Who became her little child. Fairest child of fairest mother, God the Lord who came to earth, Word made flesh, our very brother, Takes our nature by his birth. Sing of Jesus, son of Mary, In the home at Nazareth. Toil and labor cannot weary Love enduring unto death. Constant was the love he gave her, Though he went forth from her side, Forth to preach, and heal, and suffer, Till on Calvary he died. Glory be to God the Father; Glory be to God the Son; Glory be to God the Spirit; Glory to the Three in One. From the heart of blessed Mary, From all saints the song ascends, And the Church the strain reechoes Unto earth's remotest ends. Sing of Mary, pure and lowly, Virgin mother undefiled, Sing of God's own Son most holy, Who became her little child. |

Mary's Song
My soul doth glory in your love, O Lord. My soul doth glory in your love, O Lord. For you gazed on your servant with compassion, And you reached out and took me by the hand. Great are you, God, and Holy is your name. Your mercy reaches through the end of time. For the lowly you raise to the heavens, And the proud hearted have no part with you. Ah, how you fill the hungry with your love. With empty hands the rich are sent away. You will always be mindful in your mercy, As you promised your people long ago. |

O Sanctissima (Latin)
O sanctissima, o piissima, dulcis Virgo Maria! Mater amata, intemerata, ora, ora pro nobis. |
O Sanctissima (English)
O most holy, o most loving, sweet Virgin Mary! Beloved Mother, undefiled, pray, pray for us. |
Art Class
During the month of May, the Catholic Church recognizes the Blessed Virgin Mary as the mother of Jesus. For today's assignment, you will draw a symbol for Mary. Please watch the entire video before you begin to draw. You will need, paper, pencils, and crayons, color pencils or markers. As always, please use a pencil to draw. It is easier to erase a mistake made with a pencil than it is to draw with a marker. Please complete your drawing using a pencil and you may outline your drawing with marker when finished. Please follow along with the video and pause at any point.
